Horse
Allergies and Skin Problems in Traditional Chinese Medicine
General
The
symptoms of allergies are caused by two sources as seen by Traditional
Chinese Medicine:
1. An
attack of the Biao (skin surface) by the Wind (itching sensation).
2. The accumulation
of Re Du (toxic heat) internally.
The
severe stress caused by the itchiness (Wind) pushes the horse to
wound and self-mutilate. The itching is often accompanied by papules
(hives) and may be also seen as irritation of the eyes and upper
airways as found in hay fever or sinusitis that is not caused by
the presence of heat in the gall bladder.
Poor
nutrition is the cause of internal toxic heat (Re Du). The heat
is found in horses eating poor quality foods filled with chemical
additives.
Note:
The presence of Re Du is one of the three conditions (also Xie Qi
and Qi Zhi) corresponding to the appearance of cancer. It is important
to carefully treat cases where Re Du is present.
